SkyCity opened their first casino in Auckland and is most noticeable for the “Sky Tower”. Their casino counterpart in Hamilton is a little less noticeable but fun all the same for a tipple on the tables!
There are a number of restaurants in the complex in addition to the usual plethora of gaming machines and card tables.
See the website below for any special events there may be on during your stay in Hamilton.
Smart Casual
While I was in Hamilton visiting my cousin a couple of years ago I went with her and her student friends to an establishment known as “The Bank”. It has quite a classy look to it but is really a typically rowdy student bar. They have a DJ there on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm with the usual music (mixture of 80’s and current offerings) to boogie to. I am sure many a romance has begun and ended in this little joint!
I think anything goes from what I can remember! Kiwi’s usually dress smartly to go out.
This is a fun bar that attracts a younger, university-aged crowd. They play good music – although it gets very repetitive if you stay there too long. Lots of dancing going on – and lots of people to meet! It is packed Wednesday thru Saturday nights (Sat. night the line is ridiculously long!!). Make sure you bring proper identification, they are pretty strict about it. On Tuesday night at 8:30 PM they have quiz night – where you can win a $100 bar tab. Wednesday nights from 8 PM to 12 it is $3 night – where most of the rtds, darught beers, and house spirits are only $3. Shots are usually around $6, jugs of beer are $6-7 NZD. There are 3 bars inside, along with a huge dancefloor, stage, and pool tables.
Dress is smart. No sneakers or jandals. And they are very strict as to who they let in, so dress nice to be sure you will get in.
